Michelangelo’s, The David (Part 2)

The David, originally displayed with a skirt (for modesty as it was in a very public display), was seen as a symbol of the city Florence (where it was originally displayed). He is a warrior in contrapposto ready to fight Goliath (the people of Florence viewed their city very similarly), and he acted as a symbol of the city, showing Florence’s strength and power above its enemies. Beloved then and valued now, this statue remains one of the world’s most awe-inspiring statues.
